How To: Carbon Fibre Wrapping

September 11th, 2010

Walking that knife edge between classy and chavy, I decided to get into the world of carbon fibre wrapping.

I was getting bored of my plain old, piano black dash strip. There has always been a little too much black in the cabin and although shiny, this dash strip didn’t add a lot of interest. What’s worse is that it’s made of a very soft plastic. Look at it for too long and you’d scratch it. If that weren’t so bad, it’s also a magnet for fingerprints and dust. It was time for a change.

How To: Fit foglamps to an MX-5

May 24th, 2010

Yet another How To guide for your MX-5. Just showing that doing stuff yourself is not that hard. First posted back in September 2009, this article takes you through the process of fitting front fog lamps to a Mk3 MX-5. Although I use the standard Mazda lamps, there is nothing stopping you from using other brand lamps with a suitable fitting. Let’s get to work

How To: Detail your MX-5

March 31st, 2010

With some nicer weather at the weekends recently I’ve been tempted to detail my car again. Detailing is just a fancy way of saying ‘clear really well’. =) Traditionally people have polished cars but the modern thinking is to avoid abrasives and use more effective, deep cleaning products followed by some high tech protection. I say ‘deep cleaning products’ but we start with Fairy Liquid. Enjoy.

How To: Remove the door cards and fit speaker bezels on an MX-5

March 8th, 2010

Removing the door cards on your car is always a hassle. I did it to fit some nice speaker rings so I documented the process to help others. It’s another forum post saved from oblivion.

Hi All,

I fitted the silver speaker bezels this weekend so I thought I’d do a post on how to remove the door cards and fit these rings.

I’ve always thought the standard look of the doors on the MX-5 was a bit bland. The Sport and some special edition models have the satin silver speaker bezels and door handle caps to brighten things up. Time for me to add the same bits to my 2.0 Option Pack.

How To: Custom stainless steel grille

February 12th, 2010

More forum rescues. This time a guide on making a professional looking stainless steel mesh grille for my car.

Hi All,

Time for another Sunday How-To 🙂

This time I was getting bored with the standard plastic grille on mt car. I quite fancied a Zunsport grille or something similar. However, I wasn’t impressed at the price. £70-90 for some wire mesh seemed a lot. So, me being me, I decided to explore the DIY route.

How To: Repair a scuffed alloy wheel

February 7th, 2010

Hi All,

This is a forum entry first posted in on Sep 11 2009 on the http://www.mx5.com forum. As is the nature of forum posts, it began to disappear into the depths of the forum. The search feature had been reasonable so posts could be found if need be. However, a poor ‘upgrade’ of the forum software left old postings almost unretrievable. So, here it is again in the hope it’ll save someone a few quid.

It’s taken me a while to get this How To guide written but there is a good reason, which will become clear towards the end.

So hopefully this will give you an idea of how to cheaply do repairs to your alloy wheels without having to resort to Chips Away, Halfords or even a full refurb. Using this method you can repair your first scuff for under half the cost. Subsequent repairs are then effectively free! 🙂
